Kenya!

Just a very quick note to say that I have arrived safely in Nairobi after a very long but mostly uneventful journey. Nairobi is neither as hot as I expected nor as frightening as the BBC and Lonely Planet (they called it "Nairobbery") would have me believe. Let the adventure begin...

Mwema asubuhi (good morning), nasikitika (I am sorry) but this is my limited effort at using the swahili I am learning. I practice every jioni (evening)and asubuhi (morning). This is pretty mwema (good), hapana (no)? Tafadhali(please)hebu (excuse me)for not knowing more but I will keep practicing!
Asante (thank you)

Mum... pretty good... can you say them all out loud too? For sorry, just say pole pole (po-lay po-lay) that's what most people here say. Tafadhali is not so useful (most people don't say please) but asante is very useful (asante sana for thank you very mucy). Jambo is a good all round greeting!
Keep going, you're doing great!

Well what do you know...the flash cards told me polepole meant slowly. Thanks for the correction. It sure does sound like things are different. People have already started to contribute to my donation suitcase. I am so pleased that everyone wants to participate. Everyone is excited to share in this adventure....and I tell them you are my inspiration!!! If Kelsey can do it at her age then certainly I can bring something useful to the experience at my age. Do share more of your adventures!!! I check your blog every day.
Kwa herri (good bye)
